Baking With Apples


At SoBakeable, we love apples to our core! They are always around our kitchen, so they are the perfect thing to sweeten things up whenever we need to grab ingredients from around the pantry or the fridge. Here are some tips & tricks for the perfect apple treats!

For the tastiest apple treats, use apples that are in season – this means they won’t have been in cold storage & will be sweet, crunchy & delicious in flavor.

Sweeter varieties of apples are best used for sauces. We recommend using Gala, Golden Delicious, or Honey Gold. A great way to use up over-ripe or bruised apples is to make apple sauces.

When baking pies, baked apples & other treats where the apple needs to hold its shape, it’s best to use firmer apples. We recommend using Fuji, Gala & Granny Smith.

When baking with apple, you should always peel the apples before slicing & chopping them because the skin of the apple can be tough.

Spice up your apple bakes with the warm winter flavors of cinnamon, cloves & nutmeg. A dash or two adds something magic! These spices work well with sweet apple recipes, like apple sauce or apple pie. For an unexpected summery vibe, try pairing mint with apples for a more refreshing flavor.
