Summer Holiday Baking

Schools out and we’re enjoying the Summer sun with friends & family.

Thinking back to when I was at school, my favorite part of the holidays was in the kitchen, experimenting and trying new & delicious desserts to share with my family.

When we’d had too much sun, and it was time to head indoors, I spent all day in the kitchen preparing & decorating desserts.

Aside from the mess, my mom was happy for me to be in the kitchen, learning, experimenting & having fun away from the computer, PlayStation & T.V.

Now, all grown up, I love spending this particular time with the younger ones in my family, letting them crack the eggs, whisk & of course lick the bowl! So we thought we’d share some of the things we love to make together in the Summer Holidays.

Cake Pops

Cake pops are super easy, and super hands on! Just bake your favorite cake (any flavor!). Once the cake is ready, mix it with frosting and form it into round balls. Add a lollipop stick to each ball and dip it in frosting or melted chocolate to cover the outside. Sprinkle with candy, sprinkles or nuts!

You can lay your cake pops on a baking sheet to set or stick each pop in a box or piece of polystyrene so they can set standing up & keep that beautiful round shape.

Multi-Colored – anything!

From as far back as I can remember, an activity I loved doing was frosting cookies! My mom would buy plain cookies from the store, similar to graham crackers and we’d prepare frosting with just icing sugar, hot water & coloring. We’d make a bunch of colors & carefully create beautiful works of art on each cookie. The hardest part was choosing which cookie to eat first!

Waffles, pancakes & crepes

I used to love spending the night at my grandparents’ house. When the sun was up in the morning, we knew there would be no ordinary breakfast! It was not a day for cereal, toast, or eggs. Rather, waffles pancakes or crepes! Such a hard decision! No matter which you choose, they are so easy to whip up! All you need are pantry staples like flour, sugar, eggs & milk & you’ve got yourself a delicious breakfast!
